NEW YORK (FORTUNE) - PPG Industries (Research) ranks no. 232 on this year's list of the FORTUNE 500, with $10,201 million in revenues, up 7.2% from the previous year. The Pittsburgh-based company was ranked no. 236 on the 2005 list. Its 2005 profits were $596 million, down 12.7% from a year earlier.

This year, FORTUNE 500 companies overall brought in a record $9.1 trillion in revenues and $610 billion in profits. And while the economy as a whole grew 3.5% last year, FORTUNE 500 companies did much better, increasing their revenues by a healthy 15.4%.

Some of the other companies in this sector on this year's list are Dow Chemical (Research), DuPont (Research), Lyondell Chemical (Research), Huntsman (Research) and Ashland (Research).
