NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Charles Schwab, the chairman and co-founder of the brokerage firm that bears his name, is recovering from heart valve replacement surgery, the company said Monday.
Schwab, 73, underwent the "successful" surgery on Dec. 24, according to the brokerage firm.
"He is resting comfortably and recuperating well from the surgery, and expects to return home in the next few days," the company said in a statement.
Schwab co-founded the brokerage firm in 1971 and has been chairman since its 1986 incorporation, according to the firm's website.
Charles Schwab (SCHW, Fortune 500) shares were down 1.5% in premarket trading.
