Critics rhapsodize over Sonos music player
Sonos, maker of digital sound systems for the home, has upgraded its product offerings, adding support for the online music service Rhapsody. The critics are pleased. Sonos devices effectively provide users with a single, wireless remote device that can stream music from personal digital libraries, satellite radio, and Internet music services to speakers in multiple rooms in a home. Today's upgrade makes that streaming easier, says Time's Wilson Rothman who has selected "Sonos 2.0" as Time's Gadget of the Week and is particularly impressed by the service's deal with Real Network's Rhapsody service: "I can pick up the Sonos remote, scroll and click, iPod style, through Rhapsody's bottomless trove of music, playing whatever I want instantly." TechCrunch is similarly enthusiastic noting that Rhapsody has more than two million songs and 100 ad-free radio stations: "Since being founded in early 2002 and launching in January of 2005, Sonos has been growing from strength-to-strength," writes Nik Cubrilovik. Sounds good to The Browser, though, of course, just when they get the home music streaming problem solved, we'll have to figure out how to do the same for digital television. And, should you be ready to delve into the bleeding edge of "mobile TV," paidContent, reporting from Boston's VON conference, has picked up the subject this morning in painful detail.
