Another Fairfield County town, New Canaan rose to prominence in the middle part of the 20th century with its reputation for maverick housing designs that went against the grain of Connecticut's traditional colonial look and instead took on a more modern style. Sadly, many of those homes have since been torn down in favor of McMansions and cookie cutter developments. Famous blondes like conservative firebrand Ann Coulter and "Grey's Anatomy" actress Katherine Heigl grew up here, while NBC News anchor Brian Williams still lives in New Canaan.
