GE's $22.2 billion earnings in 2007 were powered by jet engines, locomotives, gas turbines, real estate and leasing, along with strong global growth in films at its NBC Universal unit (One big hit: Bourne Ultimatum.)

For the first time, more than half of the profits came from overseas, and global revenues surged 22% on demand for infrastructure, goods and services. The company is looking for steady overseas growth as the U.S. economy cools off.
