Microsoft acquires WebTV, the maker of a computer system that connects to a television set, for $425 million. The system is comprised of a hard drive, keyboard and mouse and uses a television in lieu of a computer monitor, allowing users to access the Internet without a desktop PC. Microsoft later changed the name of the service to MSN TV and launched the broadband MSN TV2 in 2004, but the demand for Web access on TVs remains limited. NEXT: MISS: Music
