Modest growth is the name of the game for the Cincinnati grocer, which has kept customers happy - and still managed to eke out a tidy 3.4% increase in profits last quarter - by keeping prices low. Kroger has benefited from extensive consumer research and private label penetration, and recently affirmed its 2008 outlook.
