Concept: Snowboarding is awesome. Boreas Snowboards wants to make it more awesome by giving the old plank a new twist.
Unlike conventional boards, the Boreas Hybrid-X snowboard features a center pivoting system that amps performance by enabling super-tight turns and giving riders more control at higher speeds.
Boreas is targeting experienced riders, whom market research shows are willing to spend serious cash on their ride. At $1,500 a board, the Hybrid-X is pricey compared with the $200-to-$1,000 price tag for most snowboards.
Timeline: Two prototypes have been tested, final patent paperwork is being filed and the manufacturer is ready to roll out the first Hybrid-Xs. - Hope Hamashige
