"My instinct says that the images are ads and I want to just ignore them," McClure says. "But in fact, that's very misleading because they are important to your site. Ads for your product should never look like the ads for someone else."
One way to fix that: Change the right rail to make it look more like a part of your site. For example, make it clear that those products are featured specials. Or, "get advertising money for those products," suggests Savoie. "Approach those companies to see if there is advertising available. Then, you can use that money to afford some time with a designer."
