What makes it great: Nearby vineyards

Nominated by: Heidi Ketler, freelance writer

Blue Ridge Vineyard is part of the Botetourt Wine Trail. It's a family-run vineyard. The wines include a Gewürztraminer, its origins are European and it's sweet. My mother loves it and she's from Germany. Four generations of the same family have run this vineyard and they practice making wine using old-world techniques. It's very authentic to the traditional winemakers of Europe.

We have a fantastic wine-making industry.... The scenic views and the old-fashioned hospitality of these vineyards create the perfect environment to enjoy fine wine.... Wine lovers, we can pack a picnic and sip wine with a view of the Blue Ridge mountains -- that's just part of a day full of fun.
