The challenge with an old Beetle is finding one in good --- but not great -- condition. A true collectors market exists for these cars, so most examples worth restoring have already been restored and those not already restored are probably goners, said Hagerty.
The later examples Hagerty suggests are less valuable than earlier ones, while still retaining that unique rear-engine, air-cooled personality of a true Beetle. Parts are cheap, too, and maintenance is easy, said Hagerty.
