Hummer has always provoked a passionate response from consumers, for better or for worse.
When McDonalds put toy Hummers into Happy Meals in 2006, you might have thought they were handing out packs of cigarettes. One environmentalist group provided a form email people could send to McDonald's headquarters: "I am appalled that McDonald's, which claims to be a kid-friendly company, would use Happy Meals to promote Hummers."
A GM spokeswoman, quoted at the time, said she wasn't surprised the "polarizing" Hummer brand would provoke some negative comments.
