Seligman Communications and Information Fund
Rich Parower and the 15-analyst team that runs the Seligman Communications and Information Fund have averaged a gaudy 13.5% annualized return even as tech has soared and crashed during the fund's 27 years. Their key: growth at the right price. As Parower puts it, "We'd rather be early to a stock than late."
Trends like renting software over the web and the explosion of services like Facebook mean opportunity for security-software company Checkpoint. While others, including Symantec and McAfee, focus on desktop computers, Checkpoint protects a company's network.
"Companies have to be able to secure both the data coming in [via Facebook, etc.] and the data that is not supposed to go out," Parower says. "That shift is great for Checkpoint's business."
