Have a mailbox full of Spanish coupons and ad circulars? That's probably because census data shows a growing Hispanic presence in your area.
About a year ago, Family Dollar stores began issuing its weekly circulars in both English and Spanish, depending on the neighborhood. And plenty of other retailers are doing the same.
That makes sense, considering that the 2000 census showed a whopping 57.9 percent increase in the U.S. Hispanic population over the previous decade. That year, 35.3 million people, or 12.5 percent of the total U.S. population, identified themselves as Hispanic. Researchers are expecting to see even higher numbers in 2010.
