The Target in Washington, D.C., is in an urban environment, so it's no surprise that the retailer limits the number of jumbo packs of items like paper towels and toilet paper it carries. After all, most of its shoppers are taking the subway home instead of a car.
But census data has helped the chain tailor its product mix to the community in a more detailed manner, according to a spokeswoman. As a result, this location has the right assortment of multicultural merchandise like ethnic hair products and Latin music, and will begin carrying Spanish-language books in the fall.
