She's rich, and she's one of the most recognizable names in the business world. But that wasn't enough.
The former CEO of Hewlett-Packard, Carley Fiorina ran as a Republican against long-time California Senator Barbara Boxer.
Fiorina spent $5.5 million for her own money, and ultimately ended up losing her bid.
Still, the race wasn't a total blow out, and Fiorina's spending worked out to about $1.79 per vote -- not too much of a folly.
