T-tops have removable panels on either side of a bar running down center of the roof, usually made of safety glass. The T-top was patented in 1951 but wasn't used in production until 1968 on the Corvette. It became so popular that it helped lead to discontinuation of the convertible in 1975, but has since disappeared from production cars because the roof panels were heavy and prone to leaks.
