Chrysler designers cleaned up the Compass's biggest problem -- an exterior design that made it look like a huge bottom-feeding fish -- and turned it into something like a miniature Grand Cherokee. Much nicer.
And, true to the Jeep heritage, the Compass is now available in "Trail Rated" versions that can actually go off road. A lot of other things were improved, too, including interior quality, steering and suspension. But not by so much.
At any rate, the improvements have proven to be enough to entice customers to buy.
