Type: Spezial Roadster
Price paid: $9.7 million
Engine: Supercharged 5.4-liter 8-cylinder
Auctioned by: RM Auctions

In celebration of Mercedes-Benz's 125th anniversary, RM Auctions sold 13 of the brand's classics, five of which ranked among the top 10 sales. This car brought the highest sum ever paid for a Mercedes-Benz at auction.

This particular two-seater was originally ordered by the owners of a prestigious Argentina clothing store. A new one in its day cost about $12,000, a truly mammoth sum for an automobile at that time. The car was later purchased by an American collector in the 1960s.
