Deepwater drilling is going strong in most parts of the world, despite the now-unofficial moratorium in the Gulf of Mexico after the BP oil spill. Transocean should capitalize on the future of deepwater; according to an analyst report from Citi, Brazilian company Petrobras may hire Transocean rigs for future projects. Transocean is also confident that the situation in the gulf is improving. It has 7 rigs in full operation in the Gulf right now (existing operations were grandfathered in) and believes that all 13 will be fully operating by the end of the year.
