In the days before the Atlanta metro area slowly enveloped this once-isolated town, few people had ever heard of Stockbridge. Now one of its local residents, Herman Cain, is making national headlines as a contender for the Republican Party's presidential nomination.
That's not all the area's residents have to boast about. There's also the 617-acre Panola Mountain State Park, which was created to preserve a granite monadnock, an isolated hill that rises to a height of 940 feet.
Well below Panola Mountain's peak are ranch and modern homes homes built in the 1950s and 1960s. Many are priced under $50,000, making it fairly easy for residents to afford to buy a home here.
