Hometown: Philadelphia
Age: 33
Was: Associate director of admission, University of Pennsylvania
Why I did it: As an admissions director, Allen worked long hours and traveled a lot.
"I would be away weeks at a time," she says. "I didn't think it would be conducive to starting a family, so I left."
After the birth of her son, Allen looked for a job she could do from home.
How I did it: After hearing about a national staffing firm called Mom Corps from a friend, Allen applied for a job there, also reaching out to Nicole Torsella-Harris, president of Mom Corps Philadelphia office.
"Nicole really understood where I was coming from," says Allen. "I now work part-time as a recruiter for Mom Corps."
Why I love it: "I can decide on my work hours. I schedule interviews a lot of times for when my son will be sleeping. It's a great work-life balance. I'm able to create a schedule where my son comes first."
