Feb. 10, 2011, New York City: Founded in 1933 with the encouragement of Albert Einstein, this aid agency has responded to every major humanitarian emergency since World War II. In 2010 alone, as nations from Haiti to Pakistan suffered historic disasters, the IRC was there and helped nearly 30,000 refugees as they settled into new lives in the U.S. The agency also serves in 40 countries, providing access to drinking water, sanitation, health care, and education. Its critical work is supported by a board that includes former diplomats and top minds in business.
