Growing up on a dairy farm in New Zealand, Ammann never had a grand career plan -- but now swears by his lack of one. "I decided at 25 years old to move from New Zealand to New York. Going from the bottom of the world to here, and going from Morgan Stanley to GM at the time I did it, none of those were part of a central planning mechanism," he says. "They were opportunities that came along, and I grabbed hold of them without knowing how they were going to end."
