Brianne Denofio
Age: 31
Hometown: Schenectady, N.Y.
Annual cost of child care: $6,000
Cost of care as a percentage of annual income: 21%

I'm a single mother and my mom is taking care of my three-month-old son because I can't afford day care anywhere else. She does it at a discounted rate of $125 a week. She quit her job so she could help me. She is a huge help and I feel bad that I have to rely on her so heavily, especially in times like these. She's not happy about the fact that she now has to stay home, but she loves being with her grandson and she knows it's important. My son and I would be lost without my mother.
