Thailand has become an increasingly popular destination among honeymooners who want to break the mold -- and break the bank. Flights to Southeast Asia can run more than $1,300 a person this time of year and they only climb higher in the summer months.
Those who still want to make the trip but want to shave off some of the expense should consider Vietnam instead, advised the Knot's Koch. "Once you get there your dollar goes a lot further," she said.
Similarly breathtaking beaches, along with tombs and temples and a rich history make a honeymoon in this country a worthwhile substitute to the pricey resorts in Bangkok and Phuket.
Koch recommends the Sofitel in central Hanoi, where couples receive champagne, chocolates and breakfast in bed for $255 a night. The hotel is also located near the Vietnam History Museum, Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and presidential palace if they ever decide to venture out.
