These workers clock in when others are celebrating holidays with family... and guess what? They don't mind!
Holidays are a busy time of the year for hotels and the Millennium Broadway will be open and bustling.
I manage the 17-person sales and catering teams. Much of our work is dedicated to booking business that is both short term, but also for business 30-120 days into the future. International markets are important to us and we could get a call from anywhere in the world.
On major holidays, we may scale back to a skeleton team of 3-5 people, but we still have to work every holiday.
For the front desk and room service, there's no exception. We need staffing 24-7 every single day of the year.
I think it's important to remember the essence of hotels and hospitality is always a positive attitude and always a welcoming gesture. Even when we're working days where, frankly we wish we were off, we still rise above it and show appreciation to our guests. That's really a true testament to our level of professionalism.
