Compare tool: Marathon Oil vs. Top 10 CEO: Clarence P. Cazalot Jr. Address: 5555 San Felipe Rd. Houston, TX 77056 Phone: 713-629-6600 Website: www.marathon.com Breaking up is hard to do - at least for Marathon Oil. In a bid to lift its sagging stock, Marathon said last summer it would separate into two public companies, one for oil exploration and one for refining. Then the stock market imploded and Marathon wisely backed off.
Now, Marathon is battling weak oil prices, and spending loads of cash on a refinery in Garyville, La. Investors don't care much these days about the refinery business - they favor the cash flow of oil production. But the Garyville project will help Marathon meet growing demand for diesel fuel and net it some valuable tax breaks. - M.C. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
