The Sebring, long the best-selling convertible car in America, is getting some stiff competition. Inexpensive hard-top drop-tops like the Pontiac G6 convertible are crowding in. So, following the recent introduction of the redesigned Sebring hard-top, Chrysler is unveiling the convertible version in L.A.
The new Sebring is available with a choice of three tops: cloth, vinyl or the folding hard top shown here. Dropping the top reduces trunk space from "four golf bags" to "two golf bags."
The largest available engine will be a 235-horsepower 3.5-liter V-6 coupled with a six-speed manually-shiftable automatic transmission. The standard engine will be a 173-horsepower 2.4-liter four-cylinder with a four-speed automatic.
The Sebring convertible shares most of the hardtop's design, including its egg-crate grill and those hood ridges Chrysler calls "strakes." It will be available in dealerships next fall, the company says.
