28. Ann Godbehere
Chief Financial Officer, Swiss Re
2005 rank: 27
It wasn't a good year for Swiss Re's 51-year-old Canadian-born chief financial officer: The company's financial statements were battered by Hurricane Katrina, the most devastating event in insurance history. Profits fell 42%, to $1.2 billion, and revenue fell 3%, to $28.1 billion. But Godbehere, who joined the company in 1996, managed to strengthen one of the world's largest reinsurance companies by overseeing the acquisition of General Electric Insurance Solutions.
