AT&T near deal to buy BellSouth: reports
Plan to aqquire No.3 regional phone company could be announced Monday.
LONDON (Reuters) - U.S. telecoms group AT&T is planning to acquire No.3 U.S. regional telephone company BellSouth, U.S. newspapers reported on Sunday, adding a deal worth $65 billion could be announced as early as Monday. The New York Times Web site and the Wall Street Journal both cited people familiar with the situation and added AT&T (Research) and BellSouth (Research) declined to comment. Both papers said AT&T was expected to pay around $65 billion for BellSouth, which the New York Times said represented a 25-30 percent premium for BellSouth shareholders. |
