Mixed open for stocks Dow stutters in assault on record high; Nasdaq higher. NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- U.S. stocks open mixed Friday, as lackluster economic news confronted some positive developments in the tech sector. The Dow Jones industrial average, which was less than 5 points from a record closing high going into the session, eased 3 points. The Nasdaq composite rose 0.1 percent. The S&P 500 was little changed. Research in Motion (Charts) delivered some positive news for the tech sector late Thursday after the BlackBerry maker reported better-than-expected second-quarter profits, even though the company also announced a review of stock options practices. __ |
