Saab and Volvo nail convertible crash tests

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety conducted its first crash tests of convertibles, rating 10 popular models on four key measures of safety. Only two models achieved top ratings across the board.

Whiplash protection: Marginal

Stability control: Standard

A hard convertible top, like the one on the Eos, cannot support weight and does not offer any safety benefit as compared to a cloth top. The Eos has automatic rollbars that deploy in the event of rollover.
