Part of Shell's core business strategy is to report all operating results as a "triple bottom line": in financial, social, and environmental terms. In addition to engaging stakeholders by asking its customers to become more energy efficient, Shell has also reduced the carbon footprint of its operations to 1999 levels. Several projects are in development that capture the carbon from wells and refiners. A test plant in Australia captures the natural gas produced from a coal power plant and uses that gas to produce more electricity.
