His men's wear collections ooze rock & roll, but John Varvatos is no one-hit wonder. The designer has the talent and the business acumen to become downtown's answer to Ralph Lauren. (Yes, he was once Polo's head of men's wear design.)

Today Varvatos gigs for two Fortune 500 companies: Nike, where he launched a ready-to-wear collection for subsidiary Converse, and VF Corp., which owns 80% of his eponymous business. This spring he lived out a punk rock fanboy's dream by opening (a boutique, that is) in the former home of CBGB's, the iconic club on New York City's Bowery.
