Brothers Case and Jerry Van Wingerden started an online retail company based in Carpinteria, Calif., three years ago to complement their 35-year-old wholesale business, Westland Floral. Before they are cut, these brightly-colored Gerbera varieties are each grown in a mixture of peat moss and rice grain skin and in separate pots, a technique that helps protect the flowers from diseases.
