In need of a kidney due to a childhood disease, Livermore received word that a matching kidney had been donated in July 2005 and immediately received a transplant. Livermore took a six-week leave but was on the phone with Hewlett-Packard CEO Mark Hurd several days after her surgery. Hurd told BusinessWeek, "I finally asked if someone would please go in there and take her laptop away."
