Dark skies: No 4th of July fireworks here

Thanks to the ongoing recession, more than 30 cities will be dim this Independence Day, unable to afford fireworks displays. Here are seven of the unfortunate.

While most Americans consider Fourth of July fireworks to be among their inalienable rights, more than 30 cash-strapped cities will have dark skies this Sunday.

"We know a lot of cities are cutting their fireworks presentations or Fourth of July parades," said Christiana McFarland, director of finance and economic development at the National League of Cities. "Cities are going through tough times in terms of budget, and everything is on the table to cut."

Even celebrating our independence by blowing stuff up.
