Wal-Mart has some of the deepest discounts on 42-inch Plasma TVs. But can the retailer satisfy holiday demand?
TV bait-and-switch?
Electronics is somewhat different. For example, Wal-Mart chopped prices on wide variety of electronics earlier this month. The discounts included a Panasonic 42-inch HD plasma for $1,294, down from $1,794.

Some consumers rushed to the retailer's Web site only to find the item listed as "out of stock." One irate consumer sent an email to CNNMoney.com asking if it was a "bait-and-switch" move by Wal-Mart.

Wal-Mart did not respond to CNNMoney.com's request for a comment.

In apparel, a shortage of woolen outerwear at the wholesale level means high-quality overcoats typically sold in department stores could also be in tight supply in the coming weeks, said Roseanne Cumella, senior vice president of merchandise with Donegar Group, a forecasting firm.
