The mobile Internet will finally come to the most mobile place of all this year -- your car.
AutoNet Mobile is shipping what the company claims is the first always-on mobile wireless broadband access network for cars ($399 for the base unit and $49 per month).
Just sit down, buckle up and log on.
Since the unit is powered from the Evolution Data Optimized cellular network from carriers such as Verizon Wireless and Sprint Nextel, I doubt very highly that the service will be fully robust across the entire country. EV-DO coverage is far from universal.
But my hunch is AutoNet will be useful nonetheless, particularly for commuters.
