Peruvian Connection is a luxury knitwear company founded more than 30 years ago by Annie Hurlbut and her mother, Biddy. The two became obsessed with hand-woven alpaca sweaters after Hurlbut bought one in Peru. They started importing the garments to their Tonganoxie, Kan., home and selling them to high-end department stores such as New York City's Henri Bendel. This cape is made from the soft coat of the vicuña, a relative of the alpaca that was once in danger of extinction.
