Starting with an in-dash computer screen, Ford Work Solutions offers an Internet-connected interface to a home or office computer. Combined with a wireless keyboard and printer in the truck, this enables editing and printing of invoices and other paperwork while on the job site.
The system can also include a radio frequency ID (RFID) tagging system for tools and equipment. Every tool will carry a special tag that can be instantly read by receivers in the truck's bed. The truck owner can create inventories of items needed for different types of jobs and know instantly if all the required tools are in the truck at the start and end of the day.
Using GPS, the system can also allow the tracking of a fleet of trucks right from the boss's truck.
Finally, on the low-tech side of things, a new built-in locking cable system allows large equipment to be locked into the truck bed by a strong, cut-resistant cable.
