The Cruze is set to replace the Chevrolet Cobalt compact car in the United States in 2010. It goes on sale in Europe also in 2010. There had reportedly been discussions, not confirmed by GM, to delay the U.S. Cruze launch.
But the decision was finally made to go ahead with it. The Cruze's 1.4-liter engine will be shared with the Chevrolet Volt, which is also being kept on schedule.
The aging Chevrolet Cobalt has been enjoying relatively good sales with higher gas prices driving consumers toward smaller models. A really good car should be able to even better take advantage of that market trend.
That's why the Cruze, along with the Volt, has been given a special "protected" status by GM. No matter crisis materializes, GM says, the Cruze will arrive on schedule.
