There simply wasn't much development to be done on the CTS Sport Wagon. In industry parlance, this is just a new "top hat," or sheet-metal body parts, on the Cadillac CTS sedan.
It's not clear how big of a seller the CTS wagon will be. Ever since the introduction of minivans and four-door SUVs in the 1980s, wagons have fallen out of favor. Even the cool-looking Dodge Magnum, hot when first introduced in 2005, fizzled as its sedan cousin, the Dodge Charger, continued to glow.
A two-door Cadillac CTS coupe is also scheduled for 2010. That is also expected to launch on time.
The real beauty of this sort of product is that it's a low-risk proposition. If demand quickly slackens, GM just uses the assembly line to crank out more sedans instead.
