The Camaro is already in the final stages of testing and GM isn't about to hold back now. It's on schedule unless, of course, things get even worse than GM expects.
It might seem odd to re-launch a muscle car in the age of high gas prices, but GM is playing up the Camaro's fuel economy. Its 26 mile-per-gallon will offer the same horsepower as the current-generation Ford Mustang's 22 mpg V8.
When originally planned, the Camaro's rear-wheel-drive engineering was going to be shared with several other GM products. The Camaro's underpinnings are already on the market in the form of the four-door Pontiac G8.
But the G8 has been a sales disappointment, and even though the Camaro's fuel economy is relatively good - considering what it is - GM may just stop the sharing there.
