Job now: Chairman and former CEO, Wells Fargo
Headhunters love Kovacevich, one of only a few bankers to look better post-2008. He's a shrewd dealmaker - Wells Fargo snatched Wachovia from Citigroup last year - and sharp banker. (Wells Fargo dodged the subprime mess after he stepped down as CEO in mid-2007.) "He's as good as it gets," says one recruiter. The problem is getting Kovacevich to leave Wells Fargo, which recently became the second biggest U.S. bank and is still absorbing Wachovia.
