President Obama has taken on an awful lot. I think it will take longer than 100 days to assess. But he's certainly laid a lot of plans.
He's maintained his popularity in the midst of a continually deepening recession. That popularity has remained high, and I don't think people give him enough credit for how hard that is.
He hasn't made much progress with small business. It just doesn't get attention these days. Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner has mentioned small business a few times in speeches, so they certainly haven't ignored it. But the lending is not happening. It's still down 50% to 60% from last year.
On Inauguration Day, Obama's job was to restore confidence in our ability to be a leader in the world. He had, and has, insane popularity ratings that will work to his benefit.
So he has the confidence. Now he needs to deliver.
