Yes, the look old-school, but buttons and knobs are easier to use quickly than touch screens.
The computer screen in the Motorola demonstrator cop car is a touch screen but, as in most police cars, there's also a keyboard filled with old-fashioned buttons, switches and knobs.
Touch screens and voice commands are great for performing complex tasks but, when an officer's attention is divided and things have to happen quickly, knobs and switches are still best. For instance, twisting a knob to turn on the lights and siren is quick, easy and requires hardly any thought.
