The naughts were a tumultuous decade for Tenet, one of the country's biggest hospital operators. The company was accused in 2002 of inflating sales by over-collecting payments from Medicare. While the Feds never proved that Tenet had committed a crime, the company later settled with the Justice Department for $725 million.
Not long after that, two of Tenet's doctors were accused of performing a slew of unnecessary heart surgeries, spurring yet another costly settlement. Since then, the company has been in turnaround mode, and shares jumped more than 300% in 2009.
