Start your engines at the Indianapolis Speedway, drive west 10 miles and you're in Brownsburg, a city of 21,000 residents.

"A lot of businesses -- motorsports companies, biotech industries -- have relocated here," said Dale Cheatham, the city manager. And most of them have arrived during the past 10 years.

It's not just jobs that attract people to Brownsburg. Cheatham credits the award-winning school system for luring in newcomers, as well as a reasonable cost of living. Housing is especially affordable. One example: A well-kept, four-bedroom house in a desirable neighborhood was recently listed for less than $140,000.
